What can you learn from those who established the profession? This event, hosted by The Investment Association, invites Author, Nigel Morecroft to discuss his recent book, 'The Origins of Asset Management' and promises to be a lively discussion on the evolution of the British asset management industry. 

Nigel will discuss his book, which looks across a wide period of British history, starting in 1700 through to 1960. He explores particularly the individuals and institutions that laid the foundations for the emergence of the asset management profession in Britain as a distinct activity within financial services.

The conversation will touch on a number of important and timely themes for the industry, including its social utility. There will also be an opportunity for Q&A and networking drinks will follow.

Nigel Morecroft, ASIP
Author


Nigel Morecroft is a former asset management professional, having spent most of his working life in institutional asset management.

Nigel's previous appointments have included Partner at Baillie Gifford & Co, and Director at Foreign & Colonial Asset Management. He started his career at Wood Mackenzie & Co.

Typically in his capacity as a Trustee, Nigel applies his extensive experience in investments to a number of charities including the Charities Official Investment Funds where he is a Director. He is also a Trustee and Member of the University Court at the University of St Andrews.

Robert Jenkins
Professor of Investment Management, London Business School


Robert Jenkins is a former banker, fund manager, policy maker and Chairman of the Investment Management Association. Among other activities, he is currently a professor of investment management at London Business School and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the CFA Institute.
