Building a Better Investment Profession

The goal of CFA UK's 2015 careers conference is to inspire our members to be better investment professionals. We have secured exceptional professional leaders to speak including Chris Hitchen of Railpen and Richard Buxton of Old Mutual.

Clearly commercial and career success is important, but the society believes the basis on which success is achieved is as important; hence our decision to put "ethical" first. For our members starting out in their careers it is an essential message, as evidence from sources such as CFA Institute and the Economist's Intelligence Unit shows. In terms of the general public - the ultimate client base - surveys such as the Edelman Barometer reveal how far the profession has still to go to regain trust. The same message comes from the profession itself; a new Oliver Wyman survey of 1,000 financial services employees ranked “trustworthy” as “the most important trait for future leaders of the industry”.

Our keynotes will explain how investment professionals can be both ethical and successful, and how firms can build a better investment profession at all stages from entry level recruitment to senior leadership. They will explore what they expect from their colleagues and what members interested in joining their teams need to know about their approach. Talent and recruitment leaders from a number of investment firms’ HR teams will also attend to meet our members in a stimulating and professional setting.

The society will have redesigned copies of our Code of Ethics at the conference supported by a short presentation from the co-chairs of the CFA UK Ethics Committee.

In sum, our speakers will set out their vision for how we build a better investment profession and how our members can be those better investment professionals.

This event will close with a one hour drinks reception; a valuable opportunity to network.
