The pros and cons of independent research - perspectives from two practitioners (Fully Booked)
Tue 22 Sep 15 at Vanguard Asset Management, Limited, London

Since the financial crisis, investment banks have been cutting their research departments. This has led to a reduction in the breadth of coverage at many banks, with small companies often the first to be dropped. In addition, there are questions around how much time sell side analysts are able to devote to long-term, fundamental idea generation rather than short-term thinking and maintenance work.

Although many independent research firms have been set up to fill the gap left by investment banks, estimates suggest that independent research still gets a small share of the commission wallet and overall spend of investment managers, though that share has grown in recent years.

This event from CFA UK's Research Analysts Special Interest Group (RASIG) will provide insight from two leading practitioners in independent research who will discuss the challenges that research analysts face in the independent sector, and the pros and cons versus working in an investment bank.
